Pat Sterne, former special needs headteacher and Labour councillor, dies at 91

Pat Sterne, a dedicated educator and public servant, has passed away at 91. She was known for her work as a headteacher in special needs schools in both Manchester and London.

Sterne led Southern Cross School in Manchester and North Croft School in Hammersmith, west London, which catered to children with emotional and behavioural difficulties. Her teaching career began after training at Sheffield University, where she taught reception classes in Doncaster.

Following her retirement from education in 1993, Sterne transitioned into local politics. She was elected as the first Labour councillor for her ward, representing Chiswick Homefields on Hounslow borough council from 1994 until 2002.
