A patient involved in a car crash in Sheerness reportedly started breathing again after first responders had made a decision that he was dead. Kent Police stated that officers were flagged down following the incident in November, where they found the driver "unconscious and not breathing".
Officers, paramedics, and firefighters removed the man from the car for treatment. However, resuscitation efforts were stopped after nearly an hour as the man was believed to have passed away, according to the force. As he was being transferred into an ambulance, noises were heard, and paramedics conducting a final check realised the man had started breathing again.
The Royal Humane Society awarded a commendation to PC Braden Farrow and resuscitation certificates to PC Abbie Penfold and PC Emily Savage, which were presented in September. PC Penfold and PC Farrow had removed the man from the car, while PC Savage and PC Penfold assisted with CPR.
Kent Police also noted that medical professionals at the scene commented that "nothing like that had ever been seen before". Chief Constable Tim Smith praised the PCs for their professionalism and ability to remain calm, leading to what he called a "miraculous result".
