  • The donation amounts to €354,734 (£304,805).

Paul Casey, the Ryder Cup veteran, has donated his entire prize money of €354,734 (£304,805) from the Omega European Masters to a charity supporting those affected by a devastating fire in Crans-Montana. Casey, who now lives in Switzerland, made the pledge after the third round of the tournament.

Casey was dramatically beaten by South Africa's Thriston Lawrence in a four-hole play-off at the Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club. Lawrence secured his third victory at the Swiss event, making him only the second player, after Seve Ballesteros, to achieve this feat.

The fire, which occurred in a bar on New Year's Day, resulted in 41 fatalities and 115 injuries. Casey had expressed his strong connection to the area, stating after Saturday's play, "This is now home. I now live in Switzerland, so it would mean an awful lot [to win]."

Why this matters: The donation will provide significant support to the Fondation Beloved charity, which assists individuals affected by the Crans-Montana fire.
