The Perseid meteor shower is expected to reach its peak across the UK on the night of August 12-13. This astronomical event offers an opportunity to observe shooting stars.
The meteor shower is caused by debris from comet 109P/Swift-Tuttle entering Earth's atmosphere and burning up. While the peak is mid-August, the shower is technically active from July 17 to August 24.
Interest in the Perseids has reportedly surged, with worldwide searches for "Perseid meteor shower peak August" increasing by 350 per cent in the last month, according to adventure travel experts Wild Frontiers.
