A quarter century on from the fateful night when British backpacker Peter Falconio was brutally murdered in the Australian outback, a haunting new detail has emerged. In a previously unseen bodycam video filmed just days before his death in July 2025, police are seen making a heart-wrenching plea to convicted killer Bradley Murdoch, urging him to reveal where Falconio's remains lay.
On that fateful night in July 2001, Peter Falconio, from Huddersfield, was shot dead on a desolate stretch of highway near Barrow Creek while travelling with his girlfriend Joanne Lees. Lees was subsequently abducted by Murdoch but managed to escape after hiding in the scrub for hours before flagging down assistance.
The newly released footage captures the emotional moment when a police officer implores Murdoch, "I need you to think about if Peter Falconio was your son Quinton, and somebody knew something about where his body was." This poignant appeal underscores the enduring pain suffered by Falconio's family and loved ones.
Murdoch, who had been serving a life sentence for Falconio's murder, passed away in July 2025, just a month after the recorded interrogation. His death effectively ended any further attempts to extract information from him regarding the location of Falconio's body, leaving the mystery unresolved.
The release of this footage serves as a poignant reminder of a case that shocked both Australia and the UK, highlighting the brutality of the crime and the unrelenting efforts by law enforcement to bring some measure of peace to Falconio's family, even decades after the tragedy.
