Comedian and writer Phil Wang has shared his top recommendations for places to eat and drink during the Edinburgh Fringe festival. Wang, who states he has attended the Fringe around 14 times, highlighted several establishments he revisits annually.
Among his preferred restaurants are Noodles and Dumplings on South Clerk Street, which he first visited in 2017 and praised for its handmade noodles and wontons. He also recommends Mosque Kitchen on Nicolson Square for its large portions and affordability, describing it as an institution popular with comedians. Macau Kitchen on St. Leonard's Street, run by a married couple, is another favourite, noted for its unique Macanese cuisine and requiring advance booking due to its small size and popularity.
For drinks, Wang suggests the Pleasance Courtyard, citing its consistent energy and accessibility as a central hub for festival-goers. Summer Hall, an old medical school with a courtyard pub called The Royal Dick, is recommended for its cosy atmosphere despite being slightly off-centre. Finally, Brass Monkey on Drummond Street is highlighted for its unique cushioned seating area and cosy feel.
Wang also mentioned Monkey Barrel Comedy as a fantastic stand-up venue, where he is currently performing.
