A photograph taken in 2014 by Attilio Fiumarella, depicting 118 swimmers in the gala pool of Birmingham's Moseley Road Baths, is gaining new attention. The image, part of Fiumarella's first professional photography project, will be exhibited at the Saatchi Gallery in London from 7 August to 11 September.
Fiumarella organised the shot on 20 July 2014, with the help of the Friends of Moseley Road Baths and local flyers, to create a portrait project about the pool community. He used a large format camera for the image, which he took after waiting for the sun to appear through the windows.
The Edwardian-era Moseley Road Baths, which faced closure in 2014, has recently secured the final funding for its restoration. The building is currently closed for works but is expected to reopen with new public spaces.
