Piers Morgan has called for Earl Spencer's book about Princess Diana, titled Swan Song: Diana, My Sister, to be pulled from shelves due to a factual error. Earl Spencer, Princess Diana's brother, apologised to Morgan for incorrectly describing him as the editor of the Daily Mirror in 1993 when the Mirror Group published photographs of Princess Diana at the gym.
Morgan, who was working at The Sun in 1993 and became editor of the Mirror in 1995, accepted the apology. However, he stated that his lawyers would be seeking the removal of the offending pages from the book, even if it means pulping the first edition.
Earl Spencer's spokesperson confirmed that his account of a conversation with Morgan was accurate, but admitted the factual error regarding Morgan's role at the Mirror. The spokesperson added that as an historian, accuracy is important to Earl Spencer, and he apologises for the incorrect assumption.
Morgan announced on social media that he is pursuing legal action against Earl Spencer and Penguin to have the claims removed and for damages to be paid to the King's Trust. Penguin, the book's publisher, is understood to be amending this specific point in future editions of the book.
