Pinterest tests AI Restyle tool for room redesigns

Pinterest is launching Restyle in beta in the US and Canada, letting users visualise furniture, decor and lighting changes in photos of their own rooms.

  • Restyle is powered by Pinterest Intelligence, which combines Nvidia Blackwell GPUs and Nvidia Dynamo with open-source models and Pinterest-built technology.
  • Users can prompt the AI to add wall art, furniture, accessories or other decor, change lighting, paint colour and plants, or visualise a room in a different style.
  • The feature is initially an early preview and will roll out more broadly next month.

Pinterest is testing a new AI-powered feature called Restyle that lets users redesign their own rooms in photos, the company said on Thursday. The feature is launching in beta in the US and Canada and is powered by Pinterest Intelligence.

With Restyle, users can photograph their space and then test and compare options in their own homes. They can prompt the AI to add wall art, furniture, accessories or other home decor, including items from images found on Pinterest, or change the lighting, paint colour and plants. Users can also click on individual items to swap them out, erase them from the image or make further edits, or ask the AI to visualise the room in a completely different style such as bohemian, industrial, whimsical or dopamine.

Pinterest said the foundation of Pinterest Intelligence combines Nvidia Blackwell GPUs and Nvidia Dynamo with open-source models and Pinterest-built technology. The company shared on Monday that the partnership will improve the Pinterest Assistant's ability to handle visual search requests and turn searches into signals for AI discovery and shopping.

The feature was teased at Pinterest's annual Pinterest Presents event, where the company also introduced new visual search ads, app promotion features and other tools for advertisers.

Restyle is initially available only as an early preview, but Pinterest said it will roll out more broadly next month.

Why this matters: By letting people see saved items in their own spaces, Pinterest may make them more likely to buy the items they have saved to their boards, completing the funnel from pinning to purchase.

What this means for you: Users in the US and Canada can join an early preview of Restyle to test furniture, decor and lighting changes in photos of their own rooms.
