A two-year-old pitbull named Roo has been rescued from a San Francisco railway tunnel after spending two days trapped inside. Caltrain operators initially spotted Roo on his first day in the tunnel and, seeing his unmoving body, assumed he had been fatally struck by a train, according to the San Francisco animal care and control shelter.
On the second day, after Roo was observed moving, police officers entered the tunnel on foot with a flashlight. They located Roo curled next to a rail track and led him out. The animal shelter stated that Roo was initially terrified but then "thrilled to be rescued."
Roo, a recent adoptee who ran away after being "spooked," was microchipped and has since been reunited with his owner.
