The Prime Minister held a discussion with US President Donald Trump this afternoon, 7 September 2026. The conversation covered economic matters, the situation in Ukraine, and peace efforts in the Middle East.
During the call, the Prime Minister congratulated President Trump on recent US employment figures and highlighted positive signs of growth within the UK economy. The Prime Minister stated that the government was fostering more positivity about the UK and making progress, with further work still required.
Regarding Ukraine, both leaders agreed on the necessity of working towards a ceasefire to prevent further loss of life. The Prime Minister reaffirmed the UK's support for Ukraine and for recent US-led peace negotiations. On the Middle East, the Prime Minister outlined the UK’s commitment to peace and security, emphasising the importance of the Two-State Solution, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, and ensuring Iran does not acquire a nuclear weapon.
