The Prime Minister held discussions with Chinese President Xi Jinping this morning. Both leaders affirmed their commitment to a long-term and consistent comprehensive strategic partnership between the UK and China.
As Permanent Members of the Security Council and major economies, they discussed the importance of pragmatic cooperation to advance UK and Chinese interests and address shared global challenges. Opportunities in the UK-China relationship, including economic growth and improving living standards, were also discussed.
The Prime Minister stated he would engage frankly and constructively on issues important to both countries, raising domestic security, Russia’s war in Ukraine, Hong Kong, human rights, and specific consular cases. The leaders agreed to stay in touch and continue dialogue between their governments on mutual priorities.
Earlier, the Prime Minister offered condolences for lives lost in recent floods on the Nepal-China border and expressed appreciation for rescue efforts and support for affected British Nationals.
