Prime Minister Andy Burnham has stated that Manchester City's owners and directors did not raise the Premier League's charges against the club during his meetings with them. Burnham made the comments during Prime Minister's Questions on 14 October 2026, responding to a question from Conservative MP Jerome Mayhew.

Burnham said he was "very happy" to set out details of the meetings, which were published on Monday. The Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) released a full statement of his dealings with the owners of Manchester City Football Club, following a request from the Leader of the Opposition and others.

The published details revealed that Burnham had a formal meeting with Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak at an investment summit in October 2021. He also met the chairman informally at Vincent Kompany’s testimonial in September 2019. Additionally, staff from Manchester City accompanied mayoral international visits to China and Japan.

Manchester City has been found guilty on all counts of breaching the Premier League’s financial rules and "the majority of charges" relating to failing to co-operate with the league’s investigation.
