Prime Minister Andy Burnham is set to host Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at Downing Street on Wednesday. The visit aims to underscore the UK's continued support for Ukraine, particularly following recent difficulties between President Zelenskyy and Donald Trump.
Mr Burnham stated that his message to President Zelenskyy and Ukraine would be: “We are with you for as long as it takes.” To coincide with the meeting, the UK announced it would accelerate the delivery of British-made lightweight multi-role missiles (LMMs) to Ukraine. This move is intended to help Ukraine defend against attacks by a new generation of Russian jet-powered drones, which are faster and fly higher than previously used propeller-driven drones.
Additionally, Prime Minister Burnham and his ministers plan to advocate for a full international maritime services ban on exports of Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG). Chancellor John Healey will separately pursue this objective during meetings at the ongoing International Monetary Fund summit in Bangkok.
This will be the third meeting between the two leaders since Mr Burnham took office in July, following President Zelenskyy's visit to Portsmouth in July and Mr Burnham's trip to Kyiv in August.
