Prime Minister Andy Burnham is set to continue his summer tour in the West Country tomorrow, Friday 14 August, where he will meet with small business owners. He aims to discuss what they need to plan for the long term and build a new partnership between government and business.
The government is currently supporting pubs, social clubs, and live music venues by reducing their business rates bills by 20%. This measure is anticipated to provide savings for around 4,000 pubs in the South West and approximately 31,500 pubs across England.
Mr Burnham has stated his intention to support businesses that invest in their communities and provide opportunities for young people. He also mentioned taking action against the spread of vape stores and adult gaming centres in town centres.
Allen Simpson, Chief Executive of UKHospitality, welcomed the Prime Minister's engagement with businesses, particularly regarding youth employment. Tina McKenzie, Interim National Chair of the Federation of Small Businesses, noted active discussions with the Prime Minister on placing small businesses at the centre of decision-making, including changes desired for the upcoming Autumn Budget and 10-year Plan for Government.
