PM discusses Middle East, illegal settlements with Amir of Qatar

The Prime Minister spoke with the Amir of Qatar, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, this morning. The discussion focused on the situation in the Middle East, with the Prime Minister emphasising de-escalation and support for regional partners to restore stability and security.

The ongoing conflict in the Middle East was noted as highlighting the strength of the UK-Qatari relationship, which the Prime Minister expressed a desire to continue to advance. He also mentioned the unique and beneficial deep defence cooperation between the two nations.

Regarding the situation in Israel and Gaza, the Prime Minister stated that the expansion of illegal settlements in the West Bank is unacceptable. He indicated that the UK would announce comprehensive measures in response to this issue in due course.

The leaders also explored opportunities to deepen cooperation between the UK and Qatar in areas such as business, investment, and clean energy. They agreed to maintain close contact.
