A former colleague has spoken out about their shock at being served alongside Inspector Scott Raghib in Northampton Magistrates' Court, where he appeared charged with three child sex offences. The 45-year-old inspector faces one count of engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child aged 13-15, and two counts of engaging in penetrative sexual activity with a boy aged 13-15.
The alleged offences are said to have taken place in 2005, when Inspector Raghib would have been off-duty. During the hearing, he attended court dressed in a dark suit and tie, confirming his name and date of birth as prompted by the court.
Inspector Raghib was arrested in June 2024 as part of an investigation led by Northamptonshire Police. Following his arrest, he was immediately suspended from his duties with Bedfordshire Police, a standard procedure when an officer faces such serious allegations.
The case has been met with concern within the policing community, and highlights the rigorous internal and external scrutiny applied to police officers accused of criminal conduct.
Northampton Magistrates' Court granted Inspector Raghib unconditional bail. He is now scheduled to appear at Northampton Crown Court in September for the next stage of the legal proceedings.
