Primark is planning to introduce a home delivery service in Britain. This decision comes after the retailer previously only offered a click-and-collect service, even during the Covid-19 pandemic when shops were closed.
The company has purchased a warehouse in Sheffield to support the new service, which will enable it to ship products directly to customers' homes. The exact launch date for the service has not been announced.
Analysts suggest this move indicates Primark is responding to challenges from ultra-fast-fashion brands. Online shopping has seen a rise, with the Office for National Statistics reporting that online sales made up 27.3% of all retail sales in August this year, an increase from 18.1% in August 2019.
Retail analyst Julie Palmer noted that a shop's returns policy for online purchases can be crucial for success. She stated that shoppers desire free, simple, and quick returns with a generous window, multiple drop-off options, and prompt refunds.
