The UK's science landscape has just got a boost with the Prime Minister appointing five new trustees to the Board of the Science Museum Group. From 1st July 2026, these experts will join Ann Allen MBE, Priya Guha MBE, and existing board members Anya Hurlbert and Baroness Morgan for four-year terms ending on 30th June 2030.
The new appointees bring a wealth of diverse expertise to the table. Chartered Surveyor Ann Allen has led major redevelopment programmes at Leeds and Glasgow universities, while Priya Guha – an MBE recipient for services to international trade and women in innovation – has experience spanning government, investment, and start-ups as a career diplomat.
Janice Lane, with over three decades of cultural heritage leadership under her belt, will contribute her expertise in visitor experience and major projects. Toufic Machnouk, Managing Director of GBRX, brings strategic technology know-how, including AI and quantum computing. Professor Tom Solomon, a leading neuroscientist and infectious disease expert, rounds out the new additions.
The Science Museum Group comprises seven museums across the UK, including London's Science Museum, York's National Railway Museum, and Manchester's Science and Industry Museum. These institutions are crucial for inspiring future generations in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), as well as preserving the nation's scientific and industrial heritage.
These appointments follow the public appointments process and aim to ensure the Board has a broad spectrum of skills and perspectives. The reappointments of Anya Hurlbert and Baroness Morgan highlight their continued value in guiding the Group's governance and strategic objectives.
The Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) oversees the governance of national museums, including the Science Museum Group.
