The Prime Minister met with Micheál Martin, the Taoiseach of Ireland, today. This marks the first time an international leader has visited No10 North.
The leaders reaffirmed the close partnership between the UK and Ireland and their shared commitment to upholding the Good Friday Agreement. They also discussed addressing the legacy of the Troubles and working towards reconciliation in Northern Ireland.
The Prime Minister expressed the UK's desire for close cooperation with Ireland during its presidency of the European Union, as the UK seeks a closer relationship with Europe. On Ukraine, both leaders reiterated their united support against Russia's invasion and their determination to help Ukraine defend itself.
Looking ahead, the UK will host the next UK-Ireland Summit in the first half of next year. Both leaders agreed on its importance for working together on priorities such as security and trade.
