Sir Kevin Sinfield received a surprise visit from the Prince and Princess of Wales during the latest stage of his final endurance event to raise money for motor neurone disease (MND) charities. The royal couple joined hundreds of supporters at Wakefield’s DIY Kitchens Stadium on the third day of his '7 in 7: The Grand Finale' venture.
The Princess of Wales told Sir Kevin, "What you’re doing is so inspiring – the unity that you’re building." Prince William also joked with families living with MND about dreading a call from Sir Kevin to join one of his runs, but called his achievements "monumental."
Sir Kevin's challenge involves completing an ultra marathon every day for seven days, inspired by his friend Rob Burrow, who died in 2024. Members of Burrow’s family, including his children Macy, Maya, and Jackson, were also present to welcome the rugby league legend.
Since his first annual challenge in 2020, Sir Kevin and his team have raised more than £11 million for the MND community. Sir Kevin expressed his gratitude to the royal couple, stating, "To have you here today is incredible and brings real credibility and awareness to the MND community."
