Professor Menna Clatworthy has been appointed to the Regius Professorship of Medicine at the University of Oxford. The King approved the appointment of Professor Clatworthy, who is currently Professor of Translational Immunology at the University of Cambridge.

Professor Clatworthy will succeed Professor Sir John Bell in the prestigious role. She is also an Honorary Consultant Nephrologist at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Director of the Cambridge Institute of Therapeutic Immunology and Infectious Disease (CITIID).

Her academic and clinical career has concentrated on immunology and nephrology, encompassing fundamental immunology, experimental medicine, and clinical research. Professor Clatworthy's work includes influential research on how tissue environments influence immune-cell function and the regulation of B-cell activation and antibody responses in organs such as the kidney and gut.

She is recognised for identifying a connection between immunity in the gut and the central nervous system (CNS), demonstrating the direct trafficking of gut-primed B and T cells to the meninges and brain. This research has contributed to understanding immune responses in kidney disease, transplantation, and infection.
