Pulp are ready to take centre stage once more with the announcement of a brand-new film, 'What Do You Do For An Encore?', set to electrify screens this autumn on global streaming platform MUBI. The Sheffield stalwarts have thrown open the doors to their remarkable journey, and it's about to get very loud indeed!
This kinetic documentary is all set to capture the band's epic rise from obscurity to cultural touchstone, weaving together 20 scintillating songs – think chart-toppers alongside lesser-known gems – and previously unseen archival footage that will leave fans breathless. Think 'Stop Making Sense' meets 'The Last Waltz', with a dash of Pulp's inimitable style thrown into the mix for good measure.
Directed by Garth Jennings, who's got form when it comes to capturing music magic on film (check out his work on 'Help The Aged' and 'A Little Soul'), this 90-minute odyssey promises an intimate look at Pulp's life in all its glory. With a career spanning four decades, the band's unique blend of irony, rebellion, and sharp social commentary has left an indelible mark on British culture.
'What Do You Do For An Encore?' is set to feature an incredible soundtrack that will transport fans back to Pulp's halcyon days. Meanwhile, Jarvis Cocker's narration adds an extra layer of depth to this unforgettable journey. And if you thought the film was enough, think again – alongside this cinematic masterpiece, Pulp have also announced a live album simply titled 'Live!', capturing their sold-out performances at The O2 in June 2025 and set for release on August 28 via Rough Trade.
The band is still firing on all cylinders, with upcoming performances including a headlining slot at the Royal Festival Hall next month to celebrate Rough Trade's 50th birthday – where they'll play 'More' in full. Then it's on to Manchester's Wythenshawe Park for their only major UK headline concert this summer before rounding off the year with a show-stopping performance at End Of The Road 2026. It's been a whirlwind few months, what with new tracks like 'Begging For Change' and an EP featuring 'Marrying For Love' and 'Cold Call On The Hotline', but Pulp are showing no signs of slowing down.
The film, produced by the talented team at MUBI Production, was edited by Barney Pilling (you may remember his work on 'The Grand Budapest Hotel') and produced by Octavia Peissel for Opal Films among others. While an exact release date for 'What Do You Do For An Encore?' is still under wraps, its arrival on MUBI will make it a global phenomenon – and UK fans won't be disappointed!
