UK-based technology giant Qualcomm is pushing forward with its vision for a post-smartphone future, unveiling two new products that will power augmented reality (AR) devices. According to Cristiano Amon, CEO of Qualcomm, the company is working on over 40 different AI wearable devices, including jewelry, earbuds with cameras, pins, and watches.
Qualcomm's goal is to be at the centre of whatever replaces the smartphone, and its new products are designed to make that vision a reality. The Snapdragon Reality Elite platform delivers improvements in GPU performance, CPU performance, and NPU performance compared to its previous XR platform.
The platform will support stand-alone video-see-through (VST) headsets and lightweight, tethered optical-see-through (OST) glasses, allowing users to experience high-resolution visuals with low latency. Inspecs and O'Neill, two eyewear manufacturers, have already partnered with Qualcomm for the white-label program.
Qualcomm's START platform is designed to help hardware makers develop AR devices quickly and efficiently. The company has also announced a white-label program aimed at helping new entrants in the market.
