Rachel Reeves, who recently exited Number 11, has been named the "worst chancellor" in a new survey conducted by AJ Bell. The survey found Reeves to be the least popular among the last five chancellors, even ranking below Kwasi Kwarteng, whose tenure lasted just over a month.
Sarah Coles, head of personal finance for AJ Bell, attributed Reeves' ranking to factors such as uncertainty, a briefing culture, and "unnecessary complication" from the Treasury. Coles also noted that current Chancellor John Healey has already served longer than both Kwarteng and his predecessor, Nadhim Zahawi.
Rishi Sunak was voted the best chancellor among the five. The survey also highlighted a significant turnover in the role of Chancellor in recent years, with six chancellors in a short period, a frequency not seen since the 1820s and 1920s.
