An RAF jet crashed and exploded in Anglesey (Ynys Môn), north Wales, on Wednesday after two pilots ejected during a training flight. The aircraft, a Hawk T2, had just taken off from RAF Valley on the west of the island, according to witnesses.
Both pilots parachuted to the ground and were reportedly treated for minor injuries. North Wales police stated that the pilots are being treated for what are thought to be minor injuries and there are no reports of wider damage or injuries at this stage.
The crash site, at Pencarnisiog, is less than two miles from RAF Valley. An RAF spokesperson confirmed an incident involving an RAF T2 Hawk aircraft from RAF Valley occurred near Anglesey and an investigation is underway.
Due to the incident, local train lines between Bangor and Holyhead have been closed, with replacement buses running. North Wales fire and rescue service asked members of the public to avoid the Pencarnisiog area while emergency services continue their work.
