RAF Waddington airfield refurbishment begins in £53 million project

Work has started on a £53 million project to refurbish the airfield at RAF Waddington, home to the RAF’s Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition and Reconnaissance (ISTAR) Force and the Red Arrows.
- The £53 million project will refurbish several aircraft bays and taxiways, install new drainage systems, and upgrade approach lighting.
- The Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) is delivering the project, with Lagan Aviation & Infrastructure Ltd carrying out the works.

A £53 million project to refurbish the airfield at RAF Waddington has commenced. The base is home to the RAF’s Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition and Reconnaissance (ISTAR) Force and the Red Arrows.
The Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) is overseeing the project, with Lagan Aviation & Infrastructure Ltd appointed to carry out the works and Ramboll UK providing technical services. The refurbishment includes several aircraft bays and taxiways, new drainage systems, and upgraded approach lighting.
This work aims to enhance the resilience of RAF Waddington’s airfield infrastructure. Extensive planning has been conducted to ensure flying operations can continue throughout the works, which are expected to be completed in summer 2028.
