Ramsay-Peaty 'confused' after slowest ever 50m swim at European Championships

Adam Ramsay-Peaty exited the 50m competition at the European Aquatics Championships after recording his slowest international time over the distance. The world record holder finished eighth in his heat.

  • Adam Ramsay-Peaty clocked 27.34sec in the 50m heat, his slowest international time over the distance.
  • He finished eighth out of 10 in his heat at the European Aquatics Championships.
  • Ramsay-Peaty is the world record holder over 50m with a time of 25.95sec.

Adam Ramsay-Peaty has expressed his confusion and frustration after a disappointing exit from the 50m competition at the European Aquatics Championships. The 31-year-old finished eighth in his heat, recording a time of 27.34sec, which marks his slowest ever in an international race over the distance.

Ramsay-Peaty, who holds the world record for the 50m with 25.95sec set almost a decade ago, described his performance as "so bad that I'm confused." He attributed the issue to his entry into the water, a technique he has been working on with new coach Lisa Bates. This follows a bronze medal in the same event at the Commonwealth Games last month.

Despite the setback, Ramsay-Peaty is reportedly aiming for Olympic glory in Los Angeles in 2028, where the 50m distance will be included for the first time. He is expected to compete again on Sunday in the 4x100m medley relay.
