Range Rover has unveiled its first fully electric model, the Range Rover Electric, after a year-long delay to its planned launch. The vehicle is set to be built at JLR's manufacturing plant in Solihull, West Midlands.
Parent company JLR stated it has up-skilled 10,500 workers for electric production, with 9,000 employees in Solihull and a further 1,500 across the region receiving training for electrification. New battery and electric drive unit production lines are supporting this launch, with JLR's Electric Propulsion Manufacturing Centre in Wolverhampton now producing these units.
Martin Limpert, managing director of Range Rover, described the new model as the outcome of a decade of "considered engineering." The launch comes as the Coventry-based carmaker has faced challenges including falling profits, supply chain disruption, and restructuring following a cyber attack last year.
