Ratko Mladić, the former Bosnian Serb army commander, has died at the age of 84. Mladić, known as the 'Butcher of Bosnia', led a campaign of 'ethnic cleansing' during the Bosnian conflict in the 1990s.
As Commander, he oversaw the siege of Sarajevo, which lasted 1,425 days and resulted in 13,000 deaths. He was also responsible for the massacre of 8,000 men and boys in Srebrenica, a UN-declared safe area, after his troops overran it.
Mladić and his political counterpart, Radovan Karadžić, were accused of committing acts of genocide and crimes against humanity. Mladić displayed no remorse during his trial in The Hague.
