Reddit is ending support for RSS feeds, the company announced on Wednesday. Reddit said RSS has become a “common surface for large-scale scraping and automated abuse,” which is why it has decided to wind down RSS feeds on its platform.
Reddit said RSS support will cease on 13 November. The company also shared a March 2027 shutdown date for its public API.
RSS, or Really Simple Syndication/Rich Site Summary, is a web feed that lets users and applications access updates to a website in a standardised format. Reddit said there is no replacement for RSS feeds used outside moderators’ communities.
For moderators who have relied on RSS channels for alerts, Reddit is recommending a shift to the Discord Relay Devvit app. The company suggested moderators and their teams review their setups and migrate their workflows before 13 November to avoid disruption.
Public API access will also end by March 2027, affecting tools that used it for programmatic access to Reddit conversations, including social listening products, tools used by researchers and AI products such as AI assistants. Reddit said those assistants will need to forgo commercial deals with Reddit for its data after public API access closes.
Reddit also said it is “adding safeguards” to Old Reddit, including limiting access to logged-in moderators and recent users, changes it said were required because of “abusive scraping and automated traffic.” In the next few months, Reddit said it will limit access for logged-in users to those who have used Old Reddit in the last 90 days.
Developers building approved third-party apps and bots were reminded to register them with the company before 12 January 2027 to avoid disruption. After that date, Reddit said it will remove API access for any developer that has not registered.
