Richard Tice, Reform UK's business, trade, and energy spokesman, has announced that a Reform UK government would immediately scrap the Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) mandate. He also stated that the party would abandon the 2030 net-zero targets.
Mr Tice claims the ZEV mandate, which he describes as forcing British automakers to meet escalating quotas for electric vehicle sales, is a destructive business policy. He argues that it has compelled companies like Jaguar Land Rover to reduce profitable internal combustion engine models before consumer demand for EVs is sufficient.
In addition to these changes, Reform UK plans to reduce industrial energy costs and implement heavy tariffs and tight quotas against Chinese electric vehicles. Mr Tice stated these measures are intended to allow the British automotive sector to thrive.
