  • The company provides durable workflow infrastructure, which has become valuable for managing AI agent processes.
  • Restate plans to use the capital to hire a go-to-market team, more engineers, and expand its San Francisco Bay Area office.

Restate, a Berlin-based startup, has secured $20 million in Series A funding. The investment round was led by Singular, with additional participation from Redpoint Ventures and Capital One Ventures.

Founded in 2022 by Stephen Ewan, Restate specialises in durable workflow infrastructure. This technology, initially designed to make multi-step workflows resilient to crashes and network interruptions, has proven particularly suitable for managing AI agent processes.

According to Ewan, ensuring durability is critical for agent workflows due to their longer run times and unpredictable paths. Restate has developed its own storage, replication, and redundancy layers, which reportedly make its execution engine fast and lightweight.

The company has recently closed multiple six- and seven-figure customer contracts. Restate intends to use the new capital to hire a go-to-market team, recruit more engineers, and expand its San Francisco Bay Area office.

Why this matters: The funding highlights increasing investment in infrastructure designed to support the growing complexity and operational demands of AI agent workflows.
