A Birmingham restaurant owner and his partner had a surprising reunion with a customer, who they later realised was the doctor who helped save their daughter's life seven years ago. Kray Treadwell and Sacha Townsend, who own the restaurant 670 Grams, initially could not place the familiar face of Dr Richard Mupenamunda, who was celebrating his wife's birthday.
The couple's daughter was born prematurely at 23 weeks, weighing 670g, which inspired the restaurant's name. The connection became clear when a pre-dessert dish, called Tea and Toast, was served. This dish is inspired by the tradition of mothers receiving tea and toast after a safe birth.
Upon hearing the story behind the dish, Dr Mupenamunda revealed he had worked as a paediatrician at Heartlands Hospital. It was then that Treadwell and Townsend recognised him as the doctor who had cared for their daughter on the neonatal ward.
