Revolut has been granted a new banking licence with approval from the European Central Bank. This follows previous friction with the prudential regulator.
The fintech giant revealed on Monday that its European arm will accelerate its continental push under a new permit given by French regulators. The group plans to begin serving customers across France, with other European markets such as Germany, Ireland, Italy, Portugal, and Spain expected to follow.
Last year, Revolut faced restrictions on its operations in Europe, including a temporary suspension of its permission to release new products across the European Economic Area. The bank was instructed to rectify "deficiencies" in its approval process.
Nik Storonsky, Revolut’s founder, stated that this licence provides the foundation to build the next generation of banking. He also noted that France has become a leading financial hub.
