Richard Hammond, the former host of Top Gear, has been fined £999 by a court after being caught speeding twice within three weeks in December last year. He also received seven penalty points on his licence.
The 56-year-old was driving a Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo at 68mph in a 50mph limit on the A40 in Pencraig, Herefordshire, on 2 December. Twenty days later, on 22 December, his Bentley Continental GT was recorded at 82mph in a 70mph limit on the A50 Rudhall Overbridge, also in Herefordshire.
West Mercia police brought two prosecutions against Hammond, using speed camera images as evidence. He pleaded guilty to both speeding charges through his lawyers at Telford magistrates court last week. Magistrate Ann Minton ordered him to pay a total of £1,771, which included two fines of £333 and £666, £240 in costs, and victim surcharges totalling £532.
