  • Rivian delivered 19,248 vehicles in the third quarter of 2026, a 45% increase compared to the same period last year.
  • The new R2 SUV, launched in June, contributed to the sales record during its first full quarter of availability.
  • Rivian plans to release its full third-quarter financial results on 29 October.

Electric vehicle manufacturer Rivian has announced a new sales record for the third quarter of 2026, delivering 19,248 vehicles. This represents an increase of approximately 45% compared to deliveries in the same quarter last year.

The company also built 19,751 vehicles during the quarter. The launch of the new R2 SUV in June, which starts at just under $60,000, contributed to this sales performance during its first full quarter on the market.

Rivian aims to sell between 20,000 and 25,000 R2 vehicles by the end of the year and believes it could achieve its best sales year ever, targeting 65,000 to 70,000 vehicles in total for 2026. The company is also developing cheaper R2 models, with prices potentially starting around $45,000.

The R2 is currently produced at Rivian's Normal, Illinois factory, which has expanded its production space. Additionally, Rivian is constructing a new factory near Atlanta, Georgia, projected to produce up to 300,000 vehicles annually in the near future.

Rivian has also signed a deal with Uber to develop robotaxi versions of the R2 SUV, a market the company considers to have significant potential. Rivian pushed back its profitability goal from 2027 to invest further in autonomous technology.

Why this matters: The R2 SUV is central to Rivian's strategy to increase sales and address previous financial losses.
