US gaming giant Roblox Corporation has initiated legal action against a British food brand and its philanthropic arm, alleging intellectual property infringement. The Californian video game developer filed a lawsuit in the London High Court on Friday, according to filings seen by City AM.
The lawsuit names Roc Co Brands, a for-profit food manufacturer established in May 2020, and its charity arm, Rocco Brands Group. The charity donates net trading profits from sales to healthcare and childhood sickness charities, reportedly raising £15,000 over the past 12 months.
The case was filed in the Intellectual Property and Enterprise Court, a specialist court within the High Court. Law firm Winston Taylor is representing Roblox Corporation, which holds active trademarks in the UK, including its name and logo, through the UK Intellectual Property Office.
While specific case details are not known, one product recently released by the British brand is Rocblox Confectionery, described as sour cable sweets in packaging featuring robot characters on a blocky background.
