Rock royalty has rallied around Jennifer Finch, L7's fiery bassist, as she battles an aggressive form of brain cancer. The music community has unleashed a tidal wave of support, with over $300,000 raised for her treatment and recovery – and counting! Launched by her bandmates in solidarity, the fundraising campaign has seen contributions pour in from A-listers like Green Day, Garbage, and Pearl Jam, underlining the strength of their musical camaraderie.
Just two months after announcing their 'The Last Hurrah Tour', L7 dropped a bombshell on Monday, 13 July 2026: Finch's devastating diagnosis. In a heartfelt statement, the band expressed their heartbreak and commitment to supporting their sister through this dark time – while respecting her need for privacy. To help cover the substantial costs associated with her treatment, recovery, and ongoing care, they set up a GoFundMe page.
The response has been nothing short of phenomenal! Within mere days, the campaign smashed its initial goal of $150,000, prompting organisers to raise the bar to an even more impressive $350,000. The big guns have come out swinging: Garbage chipped in $8,000, Pearl Jam's Jeff Ament contributed $5,000, and Kathleen Hanna of Bikini Kill, along with Adrienne Armstrong (wife of Green Day's Billie Joe), donated the same amount. Tool's Maynard James Keenan and Warped Tour founder Kevin Lyman both pitched in $2,500, while Brian "Head" Welch of KoRn and Guy Picciotto of Fugazi chipped in $1,000 each. The Bad Religion guitarist and Epitaph Records founder Brett Gurewitz (and his wife Gina) came through with a whopping $10,000, not to mention the anonymous donor who dropped a staggering $40,000!
Aubree Miller, mastermind behind the campaign, beamed with gratitude in an update on the GoFundMe page. "We're all so grateful for this amazing community showing up far and wide to support Jennifer," she exclaimed. She shared a heartwarming comment that deeply resonated with Finch: "You have an army behind you." Miller also acknowledged L7 and Courtney Love's pivotal roles in making the campaign possible.
R.E.M.'s Michael Stipe helped spread the word, posting on Bluesky to highlight Finch's impact on punk and alternative music – and urging fans to contribute. Though Finch won't be joining L7 on their upcoming tour, she's requested her bandmates press on with the scheduled dates as planned.
L7 has been making waves in recent years: they reunited in 2015 after a hiatus since 2001, released new music (including anti-Trump track 'Dispatch From Mar-A-Lago' in 2017 and 'I Came Back To Bitch' in February), and even scored a VO5 NME Award nomination for their documentary 'L7: Pretend We’re Not Dead' back in 2018. Their latest album, 'Scatter the Rats', dropped in 2019.
