Rockstar Games has indicated that the development of future titles will be quicker following the extensive work on Grand Theft Auto 6. Phil Hooker, head of GTA 6's developer, stated that the engine, tools, and team established during this project will enable faster creation of subsequent games.
Grand Theft Auto 6, set to launch on November 19 for Xbox Series X/S and PlayStation 5, marks the first new game from Rockstar since Red Dead Redemption 2 in 2018. Co-development boss Aaron Garbut added that significant foundational changes were made for this project, which are now complete and will not be dismantled.
The game's development involved opening a new Los Angeles-based studio specifically for creating non-player characters and multiple trips to Miami to ensure the authenticity of the fictional Vice City. Jennifer Kolbe, Rockstar's head of publishing, noted that these efforts explain the lengthy development period. Industry experts consider Grand Theft Auto 6 to be the most expensive video game ever made.
