Actor Ron Perlman has revealed he spat in Sean Connery's face 16 times while filming a scene for the 1986 movie 'The Name of the Rose'. Perlman, who played the character Salvatore, initially struggled with the scene.
According to Perlman, Connery took him aside and said: "Ron, if you don’t actually spit in my face, we’ll be here all fucking day." This encouragement led Perlman to perform the action, which then had to be repeated for various camera angles.
Director Jean-Jacques Annaud also shared details about the film's production, including casting Christian Slater as the young novice Adso and building a large set near Rome for the monastery and village.
