AI infrastructure company Runware has launched a modular data center called Sonic Inference Pod, designed as a single transportable unit. The company says the pod offers inference at a higher quality but lower cost than other serverless inference platforms and GPU clouds.
Runware's co-founder and CEO, Flaviu Radulescu, said the pods can scale quickly, deploy anywhere with power, and adapt to new hardware. The pods use a closed-loop cooling system and do not use water, and can be built in days compared to months or years for traditional data centers.
Radulescu said demand for inference is growing faster than facilities can be built. Runware currently has 10 pods in deployment across the US, Europe, and Asia-Pacific, and provides inference to companies including Higgsfield AI and Wix. The company has 160 sites available to power its pods.
Radulescu said the pods are not a threat to large data center projects, describing flexibility as a key differentiator. He noted that if one pod goes offline, traffic moves to another, and customers who want dedicated hardware can get whole pods.
