Rupert Lowe, leader of Restore Britain, is projected to earn a similar amount from the social media platform X as his parliamentary salary, following a significant increase in income from his posts. These posts include calls for mass deportations.
According to his declarations in the register of MPs’ financial interests, Mr Lowe has earned £932 per hour for his posts on X since the beginning of the year. This figure is more than double the average of £377 per hour he earned in 2025. His hourly rate further increased to £1,476 since June.
Mr Lowe's total income from X since the 2024 general election has now surpassed £105,000, with over half of this earned in the first eight months of 2026. If his current average earnings for 2026 continue, he could earn just over £93,000, which is close to the current MPs’ annual salary of £98,599.
Critics of X claim this trend suggests the platform is favouring and incentivising divisive political content. Elon Musk, the site’s owner, has reportedly amplified Mr Lowe’s posts. Ambrose Pym, a researcher, stated that X's financial and reach incentive structure rewards division and is shaping British politics.
Mr Lowe told the Guardian that if he wanted to make money, he would not be in politics, and that he donates his entire net MP salary to local charities in his Great Yarmouth constituency. His recent posts on X have garnered significant engagement, including one that received 1.3 million views, 25,000 likes, and 3,000 reposts.
