Wales legend Ian Rush has emphasised the importance of learning from the national team's World Cup play-off semi-final defeat to Bosnia and Herzegovina as they aim for Euro 2028 qualification. The Red Dragons have not secured a win in their four matches this year, having missed out on the 2026 World Cup following a penalty shootout loss in March.
Rush stated, "We have to be looking at qualifying [for Euro 2028], it's as simple as that." He added that the Euros being held in the UK makes Welsh participation essential. The former Liverpool player believes manager Craig Bellamy possesses the talent to achieve success with the national side.
Wales' schedule for the remainder of 2026 includes Nations League A matches against Portugal, Norway, and Denmark. The campaign begins on 24 September against Portugal in Lisbon, followed by a match against Denmark in Copenhagen three days later. October will see Wales host Norway and Denmark at Cardiff City Stadium, with the final two matches in November involving an away trip to Norway and a home game against Portugal.
Several Welsh players have made summer moves, including goalkeeper Karl Darlow joining Manchester United from Leeds United, and Harry Wilson moving from Fulham to Leeds. Liverpool youngster Lewis Koumas, who scored his first international goal in June, is also anticipated to secure another loan move.
