A Russian jet-powered drone struck an ammunition dump in Myla, a village 15 miles outside central Kyiv, killing 38 people. The death toll rose by one on Sunday, August 30, 2026, and four individuals remain missing following the incident.
The strike caused severe damage to homes, with one resident, Volodymyr, 61, describing his family's home as having its roof blown off and back windows shattered. Another resident, Vira, 65, stated, “Those who set up the depot here are to blame. There are people here, this is a village. You can’t keep something like that here.”
Serhii, Vira's son, reported finding a missile shell, several mines, and cluster munitions on their property after the explosions, which lasted approximately six hours. Cleanup efforts by emergency services were reportedly halted at one point due to another drone threat.
Thirty of the deceased were from a care home located near the ammunition store. Ukraine's intelligence service has launched a criminal inquiry into the location of the depot. This incident follows other recent Russian bombings of poorly placed ammunition dumps, including one in Vyshneve that killed nine people and damaged 280 homes.
