A host of prominent footballers, including Mohamed Salah, Romelu Lukaku, and Leroy Sané, have made moves to the Turkish Super Lig. They join Leandro Trossard, Nathan Aké, Mason Greenwood, N’Golo Kanté, and Dusan Vlahovic in the league.
Salah, who was reportedly one of the Premier League's highest earners at Liverpool last season, is expected to earn a similar amount at Trabzonspor due to Turkey's net salary structure. Galatasaray's Victor Osimhen, described as one of the world's highest-rated strikers, has already netted 43 league goals in two seasons for the club, in addition to this campaign's opener.
The influx of talent follows a scaling back of ambitions by the Saudi Pro League. Investment from Turkey's four largest clubs – Galatasaray, Fenerbahce, Besiktas, and Trabzonspor – is transforming the Super Lig into a new destination for players. This trend appears to be linked to the collapse of the Turkish lira against the euro, allowing clubs to afford players they previously could not.
