  • The surgery will sideline him for the rest of the summer.
  • Curran was a potential addition to England's Test squad for the series against Pakistan.

England all-rounder Sam Curran has undergone surgery for a groin injury, ruling him out for the remainder of the summer season. The Surrey left-armer had been considered a potential option for England's Test squad during the series against Pakistan.

National selector Marcus North had previously indicated that Curran was a player of interest as an all-round option following Ben Stokes' retirement. North stated that backroom and medical staff would work with Curran to potentially make him an option for the third Test, valuing him highly for a future all-rounder role.

Separately, fellow Surrey all-rounder Will Jacks will miss the County Championship match against Nottinghamshire after having his appendix removed. Jacks may still feature for England in a white-ball series against Sri Lanka later in the season.

Why this matters: Curran's absence means England will be without a key white-ball player and a potential all-round option for the Test squad following Ben Stokes' retirement.
