Saracens release academy player Totoa Auvaa after latest incident

Saracens have released 21-year-old academy player Totoa Auvaa following a recent incident, stating his conduct fell short of club standards.

  • Totoa Auvaa has been released by Saracens with immediate effect.
  • The club stated Auvaa's conduct fell short of expected standards following an incident this weekend.
  • Auvaa was previously involved in an altercation with England cricketers in June.

Saracens have announced the immediate release of 21-year-old Totoa Auvaa, a member of their Senior Men’s Academy. The club stated that Auvaa's conduct following an incident this weekend did not meet the standards expected of those representing Saracens.

This decision follows an earlier incident in June where Auvaa was involved in an altercation with members of the England cricket team at a London nightclub. During that fracas, he reportedly threw a punch at Gus Atkinson, missing him but striking an England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) security guard who required stitches.

At the time, Saracens described the June incident as “regrettable” and maintained support for the player. Auvaa, who previously captained Samoa A and Samoa Under-20s, made his senior debut for Saracens last month as a substitute in their Prem Rugby Cup victory over Northampton.
