A grieving father from Hyde, Greater Manchester, has expressed his disappointment and frustration after his sons' school refused to grant authorised leave for them to visit their grandfather's grave in Greece.
Callum Dickson's father, John, died suddenly on 26 May while on holiday in Greece due to undiagnosed chronic heart disease. The family wanted to pay their respects to their late relative by visiting his grave in Halkidiki, where he was buried in accordance with Greek Orthodox tradition.
However, Pinfold Primary School in Hattersley, where Callum's children attend, refused to authorise the leave, stating that it does not comment publicly on individual pupils or attendance matters.
Callum, who has two sons aged five and six, believes the decision is an injustice and is now appealing to the school's board of governors to overturn the decision.
He said: 'I don't want anyone else to have to deal with anything like this. My dad would be proud of me for questioning this as he didn't like injustice.'
