The Scottish FA has identified its preferred candidate to become Scotland's new head coach and aims to make an appointment within the next two weeks. This timeline would see the new boss in position for Scotland's opening Nations League triple-header, which kicks off away to Slovenia on 26 September.
The search for a replacement follows Steve Clarke's resignation after Scotland's group-stage exit at the World Cup this summer. Clarke, who had signed a new four-year deal in May, ended his seven-year tenure with the national team.
Craig Mulholland, appointed as the SFA's chief football officer in May, is leading the search. Mulholland reportedly spoke to a wide range of candidates from both the UK and abroad, with interviews now complete as the SFA nears an appointment. It remains unclear whether the incoming head coach will be Scottish or a foreign national.
